ENLACE Travel Grant Scheme - Success Cases

In the course of the second call of the travel grant scheme, 14 researchers from Central America were selected to participate in international conferences in Europe. Among them, Dr. Pablo Hernández Hernández, researcher at the Philosophy Research Institute and professor at the School of Philosophy, and Dr. Jorge Cortés Núñez, researcher at the Center for Research in Marine Biology and Limnology (CIMAR), and Professor at the School of Biology, both of the University of Costa Rica (UCR).
Dr. Pablo Hernández represented the UCR in the XXXII Congress of the German Association of Romance Studies (XXXII Romanistentag), celebrated at the Humboldt University of Berlin. This event brings together scholars of the romance studies investigating culture, literature and romance languages. Dr. Hernández presented two of his research works: "The Relationship between Violence, War and Philosophy" and "The Visualization of Political Violence in Latin America." The latter presentation drew the attention of this section’s congress participants for its originality, as it relates to the relationship between photography and guerrillas in Latin America. Due to the qualitative and vivid discussion within the section, the participants decided to publish a book with all the presentations and discussions. Dr. Hernández’ paper will serve to present the theme and to connect the various discussions. The book will be published in Germany and in German language.
Thanks to the support of the ENLACE Project, Professor Dr. Jorge Cortés Núñez made an outstanding contribution to the World Conference on Marine Biodiversity 2011, held in Aberdeen, Scotland, where around 1000 researchers from 76 countries participated. He won the prize for the "Best Digital Object in the Taxonomy" for his presentation of a video, describing the study of marine biodiversity done by CIMAR in Costa Rica...

ENLACE third Experts Dialogue to foster bi-regional RTD cooperation between Europe and Central America: presentations available!

The third Experts Dialogue of the ENLACE project, aiming at to fostering bi-regional RTD cooperation between Europe and Central America, was carried out in Bruxelles on the 5th of October 2011 , in conjunction with the EUCARINET project. The thematic areas covered in this round are: KBBE, Environment, ICT and Energy. The Experts Dialogues are expected to produce recommendations for priority research lines to be presented to the European Commission for consideration in future FP7 Work Programmes and establish a shared platform of RTD thematic priorities. EC representatives, high level experts from Central America, the Caribbean and EU took part in the workshop.

EU 7th Framework Programme: €7 billion boost for research and innovation will create jobs and growth

The Work Programmes for 2012 with about €7 billion -which is the European Commission's biggest ever funding package under the EU's Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7)- were published on 20 July 2011. It is expected to create around 174 000 jobs in the short-term and nearly 450 000 jobs and nearly €80 billion in GDP growth over 15 years.
Grants will promote research to tackle the biggest societal challenges facing Europe and the world. Universities, research organisations and industry will be among more than 16.000 funding recipients.

ENLACE second Experts Dialogue to foster bi-regional RTD cooperation between Europe and Central America: presentations available!

The second Experts Dialogue of the ENLACE project, aiming at to fostering bi-regional RTD cooperation between Europe and Central America, was carried out in Santo Domingo from the 7th to the 9th of March 2011 , in conjunction with the EUCARINET project. The thematic areas covered in this round are: Health, KBBE Environment, and were discussed in 3 parallel sessions. The Experts Dialogues are expected to produce recommendations for priority research lines to be presented to the European Commission for consideration in future FP7 Work Programmes and establish a shared platform of RTD thematic priorities. In the frame of the INCO conference (1st INCO Conference “Supporting Research Integration”) ENLACE project (Enhancing scientific cooperation between the European Union and Central America) is organizing the first Experts Dialogue on Environment, Energy and Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biotechnology. The event will serve to discuss priority areas for scientific collaboration following up on the consultation exercise carried out in CA countries. the outcomes of the consultation will be presented and discussed with EU experts in the concerned fields to establish RTD strategies and trends of common interest and benefit.
The Expert dialogue is conceived as a bi-regional exchange of ideas, trends and strategies, therefore the second round of the Expert Dialogue will be carried out in CA to complete the discussion on the above mentioned themes by involving CA experts. The Experts Dialogues are expected to produce recommendations for such priority topics to be presented to the European Commission for consideration in future FP7 Work Programme and established a shared platform of RTD thematic priorities.
The second Expert Dialogue will be carried out in 2011 and will focus on three new themes.
